We are on the cusp of making great strides towards the promise of mobility. This isn't a site about me, but rather I wanted a place where people can come to learn and talk about how the promise is being realized.

m.UW FAQ

Q: Why the name m.UW?

A: ‘m’ is for mobile; this is your mobile UW. ‘m’ is also an increasingly common way to indicate web site that is designed for mobile use (i.e. m.cnn.com). Put this all together with our new, easy to text uw.edu identity and you get m.UW

Q: Why is m.UW only for the iPhone (iPod touch)?

A:The iPhone and iPod touch are the most widely used smartphone on our campus network.

Q: I have a Blackberry or Windows Mobile or “text” phone and I want to use m.UW.

A: Just point your mobile browser to m.uw.edu and you will be taken to the mobile web version of m.UW. The mobile web brings most m.UW content to almost any mobile phone.

Q: Why aren’t the UW Bothell or UW Tacoma campus maps in m.UW?

A: Our current technology only allows for one campus map to be presented in m.UW. We are working to support multiple campus maps in a future version. Bothell and Tacoma content is currently available in the Courses, News, Directory and Video modules.

Q: The directory shows my phone number or address and I don’t want it to. How do I change what it displayed in m.UW?

A: m.UW contact information comes from the UW Staff and Student Directory (http://www.washington.edu/home/peopledir/). You can change what information is displayed in this public directory by changing your preferences.

Students can change their preferences by visiting http://www.washington.edu/students/studentdirinfo.html or contacting the Registrar’s office.

Faculty and staff can change their contact preferences by visiting the Employee Self-Service web site (https://www.washington.edu/ess).
